Restoration Underway for Shields Yacht ‘Josephine’

The CSULBSA has begun restoring one of its two original Shields. Beginning in August, “Josephine” (hull number 131was moved from her storage space in the Marine Stadium yard to Marina Shipyard in Long Beach. There, she underwent keel and hull work along with a complete paint job and cockpit glassing.

On November 5th, the Sailing Association was on hand for Josephine’s first splashdown since she was hauled out and trailered in early 2007, more than seven years ago.

She is currently docked and awaiting her new spars and standing rigging, plus new teak for the deck and cockpit.

Her ETA for completion is March 2015, potentially in time to make the club’s 2015 voyage to Catalina.

Josephine and her sister ship Karen (#134) were donated to the club in 1967 by Cornelius Shields. Learn more about Josephine here.
