Lasers

CSULB Sailing Association’s intermediate sailors are encouraged to try their hand at laser sailing. The Laser was designed in 1969 by Bruce Kirby and Ian Bruce on the back of a napkin. The goal was to create a boat that could be transported on the top of a car.

It was originally called the “Weekender” with the sail branded with the letters TGIF.

1996 the Laser became an Olympic class boat and has remained one ever since.
