On August 16th, the Sailing Association continued its annual summer tradition of circumnavigating Naples Island in Alamitos Bay. The event is known as the “Capsize Cruise” because members are forced to capsize Lasers and swim them under two small bridges in the bay.

CSULBSA members Kyle Henneberque, Tayfun Hekimoglu, Aaron Mercer, Diana Park, Hayle Sheldon and Laurel Skinner participated in the event.
The “flotilla” begins at Leeway Sailing Center and heads North to the bridge at Bayshore Ave and 2nd Street, where the boats must make their first capsize. After righting the boats, the group continues Northeast to the Appian Way bridge for capsize number two, which gets them to Mother’s Beach. From there it’s under Davies Bridge, rounding Long Beach Yacht Club, then Southwest through the basin to Leeway.
