New Shields Skipper Welcomed

For the second time in a month, the CSULB Sailing Association and Shields Fleet 20 are welcoming a new Shields skipper. Estela Tejidor, a long-time club member, passed her written test and on-water evaluation on September 21st and has joined the ranks of Fleet 20.

Estela has been working through her Shields skipper-in-training checklist since Summer 2013, but the extra time preparing for the test was worth it in the end. “Estela worked hard to earn her skipper status and I applaud her for sticking to it,” said CSULB instructor Charlie Abbott, who is in charge of keelboat instruction for the club.

As per fleet practice, she now has 6 “provisional” sails to complete before earning her full Shields privileges.

Estela is the third Shields skipper to join the fleet in 2014. CSULBSA commodore Tatiana Misares joined in August and former commodore Jeff “Hippie” Freed joined in March.
