The wildly popular Tall Ships Challenge 2014 festival came to LA Harbor on August 20th, one of three West Coast stops for the event.
If you were in San Pedro — and you weren’t distracted by the sight of the “World’s Largest Rubber Duck” — you would have seen the CSULB Sailing Association and two of our Shields weaving in and out of the dozen tall ships sailing the harbor.
CSULBSA boatwright Dennis Trombley was on board Isabelle with his DSLR camera and caught some amazing photos, including the club’s keelboat instructor Charlie Abbott aboard the “Exy Johnson,” one of LA’s two official tall ships.
The festival continued for five days before moving on to San Diego. The Tall Ships festival was previously held in LA in 2002, 2004, and most recently in 2008.
